Welcome from the Governors
At Thomas A Becket Infant School, we want every child to feel safe, valued and supported to learn. As governors, we work with the Executive Headteacher and senior leaders to set the school’s strategic priorities, review progress and maintain a strong focus on high-quality teaching and learning across the Early Years and Key Stage 1. Our aim is to help every child build the confidence, curiosity and skills they need for the next stage of their education.
Our role is to provide both support and constructive challenge. Through regular meetings, school visits and reviewing information about the school, we ask questions about what is working well and where improvements are needed. We hold school leaders to account for educational performance and oversee the school’s finances, helping to ensure that resources are used effectively to benefit children. School leaders are responsible for the school’s day-to-day running.
Safeguarding, attendance and wellbeing are central to our work. We review the arrangements that help keep children safe and support their participation in school life. We also consider how the school meets different learning needs, including those of children with special educational needs and disabilities, and how it supports disadvantaged pupils to achieve their potential.
We value the contribution of staff, families and the wider school community. Their views help us understand the school’s strengths and the challenges it faces. By listening, reviewing evidence and keeping children’s needs at the heart of our decisions, we aim to ensure the school is a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child can thrive.

Proposed Federation
The governing bodies of Thomas A Becket Infant School and Thomas A Becket Junior School are considering a proposal to form a federation.
The proposal would establish a single governing body responsible for both schools. It is not a proposal to merge the two schools. Each school would remain a separate maintained school with its own identity.
No final decision has been made. Both governing bodies will consider the consultation responses before each decides whether to proceed.
